BEYOND THE WHITE CUBE

For the Spring-Summer 21 collection, I wanted to shift away from the rigidity of the ALL WHITE reality while also remain true to NIKOLOVA’s minimalist aesthetic. To do this I worked not only with skilled seamstresses, but with two more Bulgarian artists whom I admire. The photographer Mihail Popov captured the spirit of the collection inside his visuals, while the musician Dimitur Kolev created the soundtrack for the SS’21 editorial film.

" For me, the Spring-Summer 21 collection is a step outside the ⬜️ "

BEYOND THE WHITE CUBE collection is an allegory of freedom. The concept behind it is rooted in the modernist theory about the “White cube” gallery space, and the way it separated art from its cultural and political context. With its rigid form, the white box inside the editorial represents not only my first ALL WHITE collection, but also the borders and restrictions we set for ourselves.
